Remembering Ontario Firefighter Curtis Gold

Share To:

On August 27, 2022, the Ontario Professional Firefighters Association and the Ontario Fire Department experienced a devastating loss. Fire Engineer Curtis Gold tragically passed away in an off-duty E-Bike accident while on vacation with his wife.

Curtis was hired by the Ontario Fire Department in February 2016 as part of a group of ten firefighters. This close-knit class, bound by their motto “10 in, 10 out,” supported each other throughout their probationary year. Their success was a testament to their teamwork, dedication, and brotherhood.

Determined to further serve his community, Curtis put himself through paramedic school, where he excelled and was honored with the highest clinical rating at the Victor Valley Paramedic Academy. His name is proudly displayed on a plaque at the academy, a testament to his excellence and commitment.

In 2018, Curtis was promoted to Fire Engineer and became a valued member of the Urban Search and Rescue team, continually striving to grow and improve in his career.

On August 26, while vacationing with his new wife, Curtis was involved in a tragic E-Bike accident. Despite receiving exceptional care from the Oxnard Fire Department and the Ventura County Medical Center, Curtis’s injuries were too severe, and he passed away on August 27, surrounded by family and friends.

Curtis’s passing occurred just days after his 34th birthday and less than a year after marrying the love of his life. In a bittersweet turn of fate, just days after his passing, Curtis’s wife discovered she was pregnant. Nine months later, she gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl—Curtis’s final and most precious gift.

It has now been three years since Curtis left us, yet not a day passes without members of Local 1430 remembering him. His colleagues continue to share funny, wholesome stories that keep his spirit alive.

We love you, Curtis. Your legacy lives on in the lives you saved, the hearts you touched, and the daughter you left behind. You will forever be a part of Local 1430 history.
